LAGOS GIVES OJO HOSPITAL ENCROACHERS SEVEN DAYS TO VACATE

The Lagos State Government has given traders and other illegal occupants around the newly constructed Ojo General Hospital seven days to vacate spaces reserved for public infrastructure.

The ultimatum was issued by the Lagos State Informal Space Management Authority during a sensitisation and enforcement exercise around the hospital along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

The General Manager of LASISMA, Daisi Oso, said the exercise was part of a wider effort to reclaim road setbacks and statutory corridors from unauthorised occupation across the state.

He said activities around the hospital had taken over spaces intended to support the accessibility and smooth operation of the public health facility.

According to the authority, some of the affected areas were being used for illegal refuse dumping, an unauthorised fruit market, public toilets, a planks market and makeshift structures.

Oso said the encroachment could affect public health, security and access to the hospital, particularly during emergencies when ambulances and other emergency vehicles need unobstructed access.

He said the current exercise focused on sensitising occupants and serving contravention notices rather than immediate enforcement.

Affected occupants have been given seven days to vacate the encroached spaces, after which further enforcement action is expected to begin.

The LASISMA boss added that the government plans to redevelop and properly manage the spaces surrounding the hospital after the affected areas have been cleared.

He urged traders and other occupants to comply with the notice, stressing that spaces reserved for public institutions cannot be converted into unauthorised commercial or residential areas.

The exercise forms part of a broader campaign by the Lagos State Government to protect public infrastructure, road setbacks and statutory corridors from illegal occupation across the state.
