LAGOS LANDLORD ARRESTED FOR OPERATING ILLEGAL ABATTOIR IN RESIDENTIAL BUILDING
Authorities in Lagos have arrested a landlord in the Iju Ishaga area for unlawfully converting his residential property into an abattoir.
The arrest took place at No. 12 Alfred Williams Street, where operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) discovered animals being slaughtered under unhygienic conditions inside the residential premises. The activity was said to pose serious health and environmental risks to the neighborhood.
LAGESC officials acted swiftly on a tip-off from a concerned resident, storming the building and halting the illegal operation. The house has since been sealed off.
According to the agency, the landlord’s actions contravene Lagos State’s environmental sanitation laws. He is currently in custody and is expected to face appropriate legal sanctions.
Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to enforcing environmental regulations and urged residents to report similar violations to protect public health and safety.
