LAGOS PLANS THREE-YEAR OVERHAUL OF PRIMARY HEALTHCARE CENTRES

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to overhaul its primary healthcare centres over the next three years as the state responds to its growing population and increasing demand for healthcare services.

The government said the programme would focus on improving infrastructure, upgrading facilities and strengthening healthcare delivery at the grassroots.

The initiative is expected to address some of the challenges facing primary healthcare centres, including inadequate facilities and the need for better equipment and improved working conditions for healthcare personnel.

Authorities said strengthening primary healthcare remains essential to ensuring that residents can access basic medical services within their communities without having to travel long distances to major hospitals.

The three-year plan is also expected to support the state’s efforts to improve maternal and child healthcare, disease prevention and other essential health services.

The government noted that Lagos’ rapidly growing population has increased pressure on existing healthcare infrastructure, making investment in primary healthcare necessary.

Officials said the state would work with relevant stakeholders to implement the planned upgrades and improve the quality of services available to residents.

The overhaul forms part of broader efforts by the Lagos State Government to build a more responsive healthcare system and ensure that residents, particularly those in underserved communities, have better access to essential medical care.
