LAGOS POLICE DEBUNK REPORTS OF BOKO HARAM ARRESTS, ASSURE RESIDENTS OF SAFETY.
The Lagos State Police Command has refuted viral claims that hundreds of Boko Haram suspects were apprehended within the state, describing the reports as entirely false and aimed at spreading panic.
In a statement issued on Friday, April 18, 2025, Command spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin condemned the report as “false, malicious, and ill-intended to cause fear and apprehension in the minds of the public.”
Following the circulation of the claims, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, ordered an immediate investigation. The probe found no evidence of any Boko Haram activity or arrests in the state. Local leaders and residents in the trailer park communities cited in the report also confirmed that no such incidents had occurred.
Despite this, the police deployed surveillance teams and detectives from the State Intelligence Department (SID) to the mentioned areas for further verification. Their findings reaffirmed the absence of any Boko Haram presence.
Hundeyin reassured Lagosians that the state remains safe and secure, urging residents to disregard the rumors and go about their daily activities without fear. He emphasized the police’s ongoing commitment to protecting lives and property.
He also called on media outlets to verify information before publication, warning that the spread of unconfirmed stories could disrupt peace and stability. “We urge journalists to ensure accuracy and responsibility in their reporting,” he said.
Residents were encouraged to report suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via the control room hotline at 08063299264.
“The Lagos State Police Command remains fully committed to maintaining public safety and order,” Hundeyin affirmed.
