Six Arrested in Lagos Over Kidnappings, Police Recover SUV and Bulletproof Vest

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested six suspected kidnappers linked to two separate abduction cases, recovering a vehicle, bulletproof vest, and other items in the process.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, told journalists on Monday that the arrests were made after swift operations by the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

The first case, reported on July 13 by Ayogu Kelvin of Yaba, involved the kidnapping of his 16-year-old son. The abductors allegedly demanded and received ₦2 million, a headset, a school bag, and an iPhone 12 before releasing the boy. Detectives later tracked and arrested suspects aged between 22 and 26.

In a separate incident, police operatives on August 1 arrested a prime suspect connected to the July 18 abduction of another victim in Ayetoro, Ijanikin. The gang reportedly collected ₦5 million from this victim. The arrest was made in Ogijo, Ogun State.

Items recovered from the suspects include:

A Toyota RAV4 SUV (registration number KWL 883 DL)

Bulletproof vest

Two vehicle number plates

Three POS machines

Two security personnel's ID cards

Police also apprehended a woman believed to be the owner of the bank account used to collect one of the ransom payments.

CP Jimoh said investigations are ongoing, with more arrests expected as the command works to dismantle the entire criminal network.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
