LAGOS SPLASHES N2.13BN ON VULNERABLE RESIDENTS IN MASSIVE WELFARE DRIVE
The Lagos State Government has rolled out a major welfare intervention, spending over N2.13 billion to support vulnerable residents across the state.
The initiative, coordinated by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, targets the elderly, persons with disabilities, widows, orphans, and low-income families. Beneficiaries received cash support, food items, and essential household materials.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the programme is part of the state’s commitment to protecting the most vulnerable and reducing the impact of economic hardship on residents. He emphasised that no one should be left behind in Lagos’ development journey.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Bolaji Dare, said the distribution was done transparently across all local government areas. She added that over 50,000 residents have so far benefited from the intervention.
Many recipients expressed gratitude, saying the support came at the right time. A 68-year-old widow who received cash and food items said the package would help her take care of her grandchildren.
This latest welfare drive is one of the largest in recent times by the Lagos State Government. It forms part of broader efforts to cushion the effects of inflation, high cost of living, and economic reforms on ordinary citizens.
The state government promised to sustain such interventions and expand support to more vulnerable groups in the coming months.
