LAGOS STATE DISTRIBUTES SPORTS EQUIPMENT TO OVER 1,600 PUBLIC SCHOOLS
In a major step toward strengthening grassroots sports, the Lagos State Sports Trust Fund (LSSTF) has distributed modern sports equipment to 1,664 public schools across the state. This initiative, flagged off on June 19, 2025, is aimed at nurturing young talents and boosting physical education in schools.
A total of 1,020 primary schools and 644 secondary schools from all six educational districts and 20 Local Government Education Authorities benefited from the exercise.
The distributed items include:
Table tennis boards
Football, basketball, and volleyballs
Running vests, spike shoes, and tennis rackets
Chess sets with clocks, Scrabble boards with dictionaries, and draught boards
First aid kits
Speaking at the event, Head of Service, Bode Agoro, hailed the distribution as a key milestone under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration. Represented by Permanent Secretary Kamar Olowosago, Agoro noted that the government’s investment in sports reflects its commitment to creating a well-rounded educational experience and enabling students to discover and develop their talents early.
Former Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Wahid Enitan Oshodi, praised the initiative for its potential to reduce youth restiveness and inspire a passion for sports among young people.
Olaposi Agunbiade, LSSTF Executive Secretary, appreciated Governor Sanwo-Olu’s continued support, and acknowledged contributions from LIRS, Sterling Bank, and the Lagos Lotteries and Gaming Authority. He also encouraged more corporate organizations to partner with the state to keep the momentum going.
This initiative is part of Lagos’ broader THEMES+ agenda, focusing on economic growth, education, and youth development — and it sets a strong foundation for the state’s future sports stars.
