The Lagos State Government has suspended all planning approvals along the route of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road to prevent disruptions to the state’s urban development plans.

This announcement was made by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, who said the suspension takes effect immediately.

Why the Suspension?

Dr. Olumide explained that the coastal road project has had significant impacts on several key development plans in the area, including:

✅ The recently completed Ode-Omi Action Area Plan

🏗️ The ongoing Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan

🌍 And the Lekki Comprehensive Master Plan, which is still in progress

“To avoid further distortion of our physical development efforts, it has become necessary to pause planning approvals in this corridor,” the commissioner stated.

What Does This Mean?

Effective immediately:

🔴 No new planning or building permits will be granted for properties or projects located along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road.

⚠️ The Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) has been directed to enforce this suspension until further notice.

Government's Stance

Despite the suspension, Dr. Olumide reassured the public that Lagos State remains focused on its long-term vision of building a:

Well-organised

Livable

Inclusive

Sustainable city

“The coastal highway is a major national project, and Lagos is determined to maximize its benefits while ensuring it aligns with the city's urban master plans,” he added.

What Happens Next?

Lagos State authorities will review and realign development activities in the affected zones to ensure future growth doesn’t clash with broader city planning goals.

Residents, developers, and investors in the affected areas are advised to pause any new development applications and await further updates from the ministry.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
