LASRRA WARNS AGENTS AGAINST CHARGING RESIDENTS FOR REGISTRATION

The Lagos State Residents Registration Agency, LASRRA, has warned its registration agents against collecting money from residents, insisting that registration is completely free.

The General Manager of LASRRA, Bilikis Adebiyi-Abiola, issued the warning during a community sensitisation programme in Ajah, Lagos.

She said the agency had adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards agents who demand payment from residents for registration, stressing that the Lagos State Government provides the service at no cost.

Adebiyi-Abiola urged residents to report any registration agent who demands money before providing the service.

She said there was no justification for charging residents, noting that signs indicating that LASRRA registration is free are displayed at registration centres.

The LASRRA boss also said the agency had intensified community-based registration to make the process more accessible to residents.

According to her, officials are taking registration services to communities, schools and vaccination clinics rather than requiring everyone to visit LASRRA offices.

She added that the agency had upgraded its technology to enable the registration of newborn babies.

LASRRA currently has about seven million residents in its database and is working to increase the figure by expanding registration across private schools, markets, offices and other communities.

The agency said resident registration provides the government with useful demographic information for planning and the delivery of public services.

Adebiyi-Abiola urged Lagos residents who have yet to register to take advantage of the free service and encouraged the public to report agents involved in unauthorised charges.
