The Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has urged the National Assembly to continue engaging young Nigerians and other critical stakeholders in the legislative process to promote inclusive governance.

Gbajabiamila made the call on Tuesday while speaking at the 2026 National Assembly Open Week in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

He said the legislature should ensure that citizens understand how laws are made, how public resources are appropriated and how legislative oversight protects the national interest.

“Citizens should be able to follow how laws are made, understand how public resources are appropriated, and see how legislative oversight protects the national interests,” he said.

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives stressed the need for lawmakers to maintain regular engagement with Nigerians from all segments of society.

“The legislature must continue to hear from young Nigerians, hear from the women, hear from persons with disabilities, civil society, the private sector, professional bodies, and communities across the federation,” Gbajabiamila said.

Reflecting on his experience as Speaker, he noted that legislative leadership requires balancing competing interests in the interest of national unity and development.

“Having had the privilege of serving as Speaker of the House of Representatives, I understand the weight of the gavel and the difficult task of reconciling competing interests in a manner that preserves unity and advances the common good,” he added.
