The Lagos State Government has announced a full closure of the Epe-bound carriageway of the Lekki–Ajah Expressway, from Admiralty Way Junction to Jubilee Bridge in Ajah, to facilitate extensive rehabilitation along the corridor.

The announcement was made on Thursday by the state Ministry of Transportation and signed by Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi.

The total closure is intended to allow uninterrupted construction activities at key intersections. During this period, traffic will be temporarily redirected to the Lagos-bound carriageway under a structured lane-sharing system. Between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., two lanes will serve Lagos-bound traffic while one lane accommodates vehicles heading toward Epe. From 3:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., the arrangement will reverse, with two lanes for Epe-bound traffic and one lane for Lagos-bound movement.

Motorists are encouraged to use the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road as an alternative where possible. To ensure smooth traffic flow, officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other personnel will be deployed along the corridor, with tow trucks on standby for breakdowns and emergencies.

Night-time operations will include partial closures and restricted movements at intersections such as Admiralty Way, Maruwa, Freedom Way, Chisco, Jakande, Igbo-Efon, Chevron, Lekki Conservation Toll Plaza to VGC, and the VGC–Jubilee Bridge axis. Certain intersections may be completely closed for up to eight hours at night during asphalt-laying activities to guarantee safety and construction quality.

Rehabilitation on the Epe-bound carriageway will be carried out in phases, covering the route from Admiralty Way Junction through Maruwa, Freedom Way, Chisco, Jakande, Igbo-Efon, Chevron, Lekki Conservation Toll Plaza, VGC U-Turn, and ending at Jubilee Bridge. Similar phased repairs are planned for sections of the Lagos-bound carriageway.

The new traffic plan follows the successful completion of the Chevron-to-Admiralty segment on the Lagos-bound side and aims to maintain progress on the Epe-bound route. Residents and road users are urged to cooperate with traffic officials, follow diversion signs, and plan their journeys accordingly, with updates to be provided as the project progresses.
