American rapper and singer Lil Nas X has been released from jail after spending the weekend in custody following his arrest in Los Angeles.

The artist, whose real name is Montero Hill, was arrested on Thursday, August 21, on allegations of assaulting a police officer. He was also briefly hospitalized over concerns of a possible overdose, though police have not confirmed those details.

On Monday, August 25, Lil Nas X appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to four felony charges: three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office.

He was held in custody until posting $75,000 bail and has since been released. The court has scheduled a preliminary hearing for September 15.

If convicted, the Old Town Road hitmaker could face up to five years in state prison.

As part of his bail conditions, the judge has ordered Lil Nas X to attend four Narcotics Anonymous meetings per week, with police alleging he may have been under the influence of drugs during the incident.

The case has drawn widespread attention, with fans expressing both concern and support for the 25-year-old star as he prepares for the legal battle ahead.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
