LIVERPOOL BOSS ARNE SLOT BLASTS NEWCASTLE’S STYLE AFTER 3-2 THRILLER
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has criticised Newcastle United’s style of play after his side edged a dramatic 3-2 victory at St James’ Park on Monday night.
The Premier League champions raced into a two-goal lead through Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike in a fiery encounter. Newcastle, however, fought back as Bruno Guimaraes and William Osula struck to level the score.
But it was 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha who stole the show again, grabbing a dramatic late winner for Liverpool to seal all three points.
Speaking after the game, Slot admitted he wasn’t impressed with Newcastle’s approach.
“I’m not too sure if I saw a football match today. It was set-piece after set-piece, long throw. It didn’t have a lot to do with tactics, but I liked how we stood strong,” the Dutchman told Sky Sports.
He added that the first half was particularly difficult for his team, but praised their resilience:
“Very difficult first half hour, 45 minutes, but we didn’t collapse at all, we stood strong.”
The win keeps Liverpool’s momentum going as they continue their title defence, while Newcastle are left to reflect on a frustrating defeat in front of their home fans.
