LOCAL CRUDE SHORTAGE CRIPPLING NIGERIAN REFINERIES – MAN

he Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has raised alarm over the persistent shortage of local crude oil supply, which it says is severely crippling the operations of domestic refineries.

MAN noted that despite Nigeria’s status as a major oil producer, the inadequate supply of crude to local refineries has resulted in low capacity utilisation and increased reliance on imported petroleum products. The association warned that the situation is threatening industrial growth and contributing to higher production costs for manufacturers.

The group called on the Federal Government to prioritise the allocation of sufficient crude to local refineries and address the challenges hindering optimal production. MAN emphasised the need for a holistic approach that ensures steady feedstock supply to support the country’s energy security and industrial development.

Stakeholders believe that resolving the crude supply issue is critical for the effective operation of both existing and newly rehabilitated refineries. They urged the government to take decisive action to reverse the trend and maximise the benefits of Nigeria’s hydrocarbon resources for the domestic economy.

The development highlights the gap between Nigeria’s oil production capacity and its ability to meet local refining needs.
