The Oyo State Government has completed 316 micro-projects in 144 communities across the state under the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, the Chairman of the Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency, Abideen Adeaga, said on Thursday.

Adeaga disclosed this at a workshop organised by the agency for local government chairmen, heads of local government administration, and desk officers on the implementation procedures of NG-CARES 2.0 micro-projects. The event was held at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan.

He explained that the projects, executed under the NG-CARES 1.0 programme, covered critical sectors including education, community healthcare, erosion control, and the provision of potable water.

“As captured in the ‘Roadmap to Sustainable Development 2023–2027,’ Omituntun 2.0, His Excellency is determined not only to ameliorate the situation of the people of the state but to take us from poverty to abundant prosperity,” Adeaga said.

“It is in the quest to achieve this lofty goal that the governor approved the release of enormous funds that are unprecedented in the history of the agency, to provide simultaneously under NG-CARES 1.0, 316 micro-infrastructural projects in 144 communities across all the local government areas in the state,” he added.

According to him, the projects have resulted in increased school enrolment, a reduction in the number of out-of-school children, a decline in water-borne diseases, improved access to potable water, better roads, and enhanced access to healthcare services.

The state Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, Sikiru Sanda, commended the agency for ensuring equitable distribution of projects across the state and urged council chairmen to prioritise their sustainability.

“With the help of OYCSDA, most communities across the state have benefited from many projects. We commend this agency for not politicising project locations and urge them not to derail in their monitoring system to ensure quality and timely delivery,” Sanda said.

He assured that local government councils would support the monitoring and maintenance of the projects to guarantee quality service delivery.

Earlier, the General Manager of the agency, Jelili Salau, stated that the projects had been completed and were already being utilised by residents across the state.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
