MAKINDE CONFIRMS ABDUCTION OF SEVEN TEACHERS IN OGBOMOSO SCHOOL ATTACK, ONE DIES IN CAPTIVITY
The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has confirmed that seven teachers were abducted during a school attack in Ogbomoso, while one of the victims died while in captivity.
The governor gave the update while addressing recent security incidents affecting communities in the state, where schools and rural areas have faced repeated attacks by armed groups.
According to him, the teachers were taken during the assault on the school and were later held by the abductors. One of the victims reportedly died while still in captivity, while efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining kidnapped teachers.
The incident has raised renewed concern about the safety of schools and education workers in parts of Nigeria, particularly in areas where insecurity has affected learning activities and community stability.
Makinde said security agencies have been mobilised to respond to the situation, with efforts focused on locating the abductors and rescuing the remaining victims.
School abductions have remained a recurring security challenge in several parts of the country, prompting calls for stronger protection measures for educational institutions, especially in vulnerable communities.
Authorities have not yet released further details on the identities of the victims or the exact circumstances surrounding the attack.
The situation is still developing as security operations continue in the affected area.
