MAKINDE DECLARES 2027 PRESIDENTIAL AMBITION, UNVEILS ‘RESET NIGERIA MOVEMENT’
The Governor of Seyi Makinde has announced his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, unveiling a new political platform he described as a nationwide reform-driven movement.
Makinde made the declaration on Thursday in Ibadan during a political rally where he also introduced a new structure tagged the “Reset Nigeria Movement,” alongside a campaign website designed to support nationwide mobilisation.
He is expected to run under the platform of the Allied People’s Movement.
Speaking at the event, the governor said Nigeria was at a critical point that required a complete shift in governance approach, insisting that the country could no longer continue with what he described as “politics as usual.”
“Nigeria cannot continue with politics as usual. This is the time to reset our nation, rebuild public trust, strengthen institutions and create a system that works for all Nigerians,” he said.
According to him, the proposed “Reset Nigeria” agenda will focus on key sectors including economic expansion, job creation, education reform, healthcare delivery, infrastructure development, power sector stability, national security, and stronger public institutions.
He explained that the movement is designed to serve as both a political and civic mobilisation structure, aimed at rallying support across different regions of the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The declaration marks one of the earliest formal entries into the 2027 presidential race, as political realignments and early campaigns begin to take shape across major parties and emerging coalitions.
Further details regarding campaign structure, running mate considerations, and national strategy are expected to be announced in the coming months.
