Tragedy struck at the Share Cattle Market in Kwara State when a man lost his life while trying to prevent the arrest of his son, a suspected kidnapper who is now on the run.

According to eyewitnesses, members of a local vigilance group had apprehended the young man on suspicion of involvement in kidnapping activities. However, the situation turned chaotic when his father stepped in, demanding his immediate release.

In the heat of the confrontation, the suspect managed to break free and escape. Witnesses say the father then attacked one of the vigilantes with a machete, inflicting injuries. In response, the injured vigilante reportedly fired at the man, who later died from his wounds.

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the incident, explaining that the injured vigilante is currently receiving medical treatment.

“His attack on the vigilante freed the supposed kidnap suspect after he struck the officer with a machete,” Ojo stated. He added that investigations are ongoing to track down the escaped suspect and uncover the full details of the case.

The incident has sparked discussions in the community about the dangers of interfering with law enforcement operations, especially when dealing with violent crime suspects.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
