MANCHESTER CITY SEAL €55M DEAL FOR AC MILAN’S REIJNDERS

Manchester City have reached an agreement with AC Milan to sign Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders in a deal reportedly worth €55 million ($63 million), marking their first major acquisition of the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old Netherlands international is believed to have agreed to a five-year contract with the Premier League giants, although the move is yet to be officially finalised.

City are aiming to complete the signing ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup, which begins in the United States on June 14. They face Wydad Casablanca in their opening match in Philadelphia on June 18.

Reijnders joined AC Milan from AZ Alkmaar in 2023 and had an impressive 2024/25 season, netting 15 goals. His arrival is expected to strengthen Pep Guardiola’s midfield options, especially following the departure of veteran playmaker Kevin De Bruyne.

De Bruyne is unlikely to feature in the Club World Cup as he edges closer to a potential move to Serie A champions Napoli. Meanwhile, Mateo Kovacic will also miss the tournament after undergoing Achilles surgery.

City endured a disappointing 2024/25 campaign, finishing third in the Premier League and ending the season trophyless for the first time in eight years. Club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak recently admitted that the club “probably should have been more aggressive” in the transfer market last summer.

The Club World Cup squad deadline has prompted a temporary extension of the transfer window until June 10, with the window set to reopen on June 16. City enter the revamped 32-team tournament as defending champions, having lifted the trophy in Saudi Arabia two years ago.
