MANCHESTER UNITED HAVE HELD INITIAL TALKS WITH VICTOR OSIMHEN'S CAMP OVER A POTENTIAL SUMMER TRANSFER.
Manchester United have taken a significant step toward signing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen by holding initial talks with his representatives, according to reports.
Foot Mercato confirmed that “a meeting took place in the last few hours between the Nigerian striker’s entourage and Manchester United,” marking the beginning of formal negotiations.
Osimhen, currently on loan in Turkey, has been in sensational form, netting 33 goals and providing 8 assists in 37 appearances. Despite his success in Istanbul, he remains contracted to Napoli, as the move was a simple loan deal. Despite leading the Turkish Super Lig and closing in on the title, Osimhen’s current club is unlikely to afford a permanent deal for the striker.
According to Foot Mercato, the 26-year-old is attracting strong interest ahead of the summer from two key destinations: Saudi Arabia and the Premier League. Saudi club Al Hilal reportedly offered €50 million for Osimhen last summer, but he turned it down in favor of a move to Turkey.
However, Saudi interest remains strong, with Neom—a project-backed club from Saudi Arabia—now closely monitoring his situation. Despite interest from Saudi Arabia, Osimhen is reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League, which has the financial capacity to meet his high wage demands. According to Foot Mercato, the striker is seeking an annual salary of €12 million—an amount few clubs outside England can afford.
“To be honest, England has the only league capable of covering the incredible salary demanded by the player, namely €12m per year,” Foot Mercato stated, highlighting the financial appeal of a Premier League move.
Manchester United are reportedly leading the race for Victor Osimhen in England. According to Foot Mercato, the club's hierarchy—unimpressed with their current attacking options—have shortlisted four strikers for the No. 9 role, with Osimhen high on the list alongside Victor Gyökeres and Liam Delap. Gyökeres is seen as the top choice, especially if United qualify for the Champions League via the Europa League.
Napoli, meanwhile, are expected to demand over €75 million including bonuses for Osimhen’s release. Foot Mercato stated, “It will probably be necessary to spend more than €75m, bonuses included, to prise Osimhen away from Napoli.”
