Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has raised questions about the credibility of the Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) prize distribution, alleging that many former winners of the reality show end up financially worse off after their victory.

In a post shared via his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, Adeyanju wondered if the show’s organisers actually pay the winners the full prize money promised.

“Do they really give BBNaija winners the prize money? The reason I am asking is because many of them end up looking extremely broke thereafter,” he wrote.

His remarks came barely 24 hours after Imisi was crowned winner of the 10th edition of BBNaija and received a grand prize of ₦150 million on Sunday.

Adeyanju’s post quickly went viral, sparking mixed reactions among BBNaija fans. While some social media users agreed with his observation, others challenged him to name specific winners who became broke after winning the show.

Interestingly, Phyna, winner of the 2022 “Level Up” edition, has on several occasions accused the organisers of failing to deliver all her promised prizes, a claim that reignited public curiosity about Adeyanju’s statement.

As the debate continues online, many fans are calling on the show’s organisers to clarify the status of prize disbursements and ensure full transparency going forward.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
