MANY INJURED AS BUILDING COLLAPSES OVERNIGHT IN LAGOS ISLAND
A tragic scene unfolded in the early hours of Thursday when a building collapsed along Adeniji Adele Road in Isale Eko, Lagos Island, leaving several people injured and in urgent need of medical care.
According to updates from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the building caved in overnight, prompting a rapid response from emergency agencies, including LASTMA officials, the Nigerian Police, and other rescue teams.
“Victims trapped under the rubble have been rescued and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment,” LASTMA confirmed on its official X handle. Fortunately, the agency also noted that traffic flow in the area was not initially affected, though officials have since created a temporary diversion to ease movement. Motorists are being directed from Zenith Bank back through Oba’s Palace, with Enu Owa serving as an alternative route.
While the exact number of casualties remains unclear, search and rescue operations are still ongoing, and the building site has been cordoned off to ensure safety.
The cause of the collapse has yet to be officially determined. However, many residents point to the ageing structures common in Lagos Island and possible structural failures, which have long raised concerns among experts and community leaders alike.
As emergency teams continue their work, residents and business owners in the area are anxiously waiting for updates, hoping that no more victims will be found under the debris.
