MAY 1 DECLARED PUBLIC HOLIDAY FOR WORKERS’ DAY BY FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
The Federal Government has declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, as a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Workers’ Day celebration.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement released on Tuesday night and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo praised Nigerian workers for their diligence, commitment, and sacrifice, noting that their contributions are instrumental to the country’s growth and the respect it enjoys on the global stage.
“There is dignity in labour. The dedication and commitment to the work we do is vital to nation-building,” the minister stated.
He encouraged workers across all sectors to embrace innovation and productivity, emphasizing that these qualities are essential for enhancing service delivery and improving governance. According to him, when workers raise the standards in their professions, the broader society reaps the benefits.
The minister also reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to the security of lives and property, assuring both citizens and foreigners of the government's dedication to maintaining peace and stability.
While wishing Nigerian workers a happy celebration, Dr. Tunji-Ojo called on citizens to remain hopeful, stressing that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda remains on course to deliver tangible progress for the nation.
