MBAPPE SHINES AS REAL MADRID BEAT REAL OVIEDO 3-0
Kylian Mbappe delivered once again for Real Madrid, scoring twice in a 3-0 victory over newly-promoted Real Oviedo at the Santiago Bernabéu. Vinicius Jr added a late goal to seal the win, though questions remain about Madrid’s overall performance under Xabi Alonso.
Madrid, who looked shaky in their opening La Liga game, were far from dominant here and almost paid for it early on. Within seconds, an Oviedo attack forced a rare error from goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, but defender Dean Huijsen recovered quickly to clear the danger.
Despite struggling to create clear chances, Madrid found the breakthrough in the first half thanks to Mbappe’s trademark brilliance. The French forward turned smartly on the edge of the box before slotting a precise finish into the bottom corner to give his side the lead.
After halftime, Federico Valverde nearly doubled the advantage following a swift counter-attack, but Oviedo’s goalkeeper Aaron Escandell made a superb save. The visitors then grew into the game and even struck the post, putting Madrid under pressure.
With the match still in the balance, Mbappe stepped up again in the 83rd minute, finishing clinically from a Vinicius Jr assist to make it 2-0. In stoppage time, Vinicius added a goal of his own, firing into the bottom corner after Oviedo committed men forward.
The result means Madrid have taken two wins from two to start their La Liga campaign. However, despite Mbappe’s heroics, Alonso’s side will need sharper and more convincing displays as the season unfolds.
