MERCY JOHNSON BREAKS SILENCE ON HEALTH STRUGGLES, CANCER SCARE, AND WEIGHT LOSS
Renowned Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie has opened up about her recent health challenges, revealing that a cancer scare led to the removal of her thyroid gland. The revelation comes after widespread speculation and concern from fans over her sudden and noticeable weight loss.
In a candid conversation with veteran actress Joke Silva, Johnson shared the emotional and physical toll of the experience, which unfolded while she was caring for a six-month-old baby.
“I had a cancer scare and had my thyroid removed. It was a difficult journey for us because we have children, and my last born was just six months old at the time,” she said. “My husband and I had to come to terms with the fact that this was our new reality, and we decided to go ahead with the surgery.”
Following the procedure, Johnson was informed that she would be on medication for the rest of her life — a reality that required her and her family to make significant lifestyle adjustments.
“They told me I couldn’t miss my medication and explained all the possible side effects. So when people talk about my weight loss, I try to make peace with it,” she explained. “This is where we are now. We’ve accepted it, and we’re choosing to grow and find comfort in this new phase.”
Her openness has resonated with many fans, shedding light on the often-private health struggles faced by public figures. Johnson’s story underscores the importance of early detection, medical support, and emotional resilience when dealing with serious health concerns.
Support has poured in from colleagues and admirers who have praised the actress for her courage and vulnerability in sharing her journey.
