MESSI TO FACE FORMER CLUB PSG AS INTER MIAMI MOVE ON IN CLUB WORLD CUP
Football legend Lionel Messi is set to reunite with his former club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in an exciting FIFA Club World Cup knockout fixture, after his current team, Inter Miami, advanced from the group stage.
Inter Miami secured their spot in the next round with a 2-2 draw against Brazilian side Palmeiras, in front of over 60,000 fans at the Hard Rock Stadium. Goals from Tadeo Allende and Luis Suárez gave Inter a 2-0 lead and put them in control of the match.
But Palmeiras made a late comeback, scoring twice in the final 10 minutes through Paulinho and Mauricio, which allowed them to top Group A on goal difference. Inter Miami finished second, setting up a much-anticipated clash with PSG—where Messi played between 2021 and 2023.
Meanwhile, in the group’s other match, fans were treated to a goal-fest between Al Ahly of Egypt and Porto of Portugal, which ended 4-4. Al Ahly’s Wessam Ali bagged a stunning hat-trick, while goals from Rodrigo Mora, William, and Samu Aghehowa kept Porto in the game.
Al Ahly thought they had won it when Mohamed Romdhane made it 4-3 in the 64th minute, but Pepe scored a late equaliser in the 89th minute to level the game. Unfortunately, despite the dramatic finish, both teams were eliminated, finishing with two points each.
As the knockout stage looms, all eyes will be on Messi and Inter Miami as they take on PSG in what promises to be a thrilling encounter between old friends turned rivals.
