METUH CONFIRMS OMOKRI HELPED HIRE SHOWUNMI AS ATIKU’S SPOKESPERSON
Former PDP spokesperson Olisa Metuh has confirmed Reno Omokri’s recent claim that he played a key role in Segun Showunmi’s appointment as the spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar back in 2018.
Speaking during a phone chat with journalists, Metuh said, “Yes, it happened in 2018. Reno called me, asking for a recommendation for Atiku. I initially thought of Deji Adeyanju, but he had already left the PDP at that point. So I remembered Segun and passed his name along.”
According to Metuh, he advised Showunmi to reach out to Reno, which he did, and that was how the process began. “There’s no controversy about it,” he added, “Reno reached out, I recommended Segun, and the rest is history.”
This statement from Metuh supports what Omokri said earlier on The Honest Bunch podcast, where he explained how he helped hire several people for Atiku’s campaign, including Showunmi. Reno also posted on Facebook, highlighting how he negotiated Showunmi’s salary directly and got approval from Atiku after speaking to him from California.
“Metuh recommended Segun Showunmi to me, and I handled the entire process — from receiving his CV to negotiating his salary,” Reno wrote.
He added that Showunmi personally thanked Metuh after the appointment, showing appreciation for the opportunity.
Omokri, who served as an aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, made it clear that he keeps detailed records of his dealings and warned anyone disputing the facts to think twice.
“If I’m nothing at all, I’m a meticulous record keeper,” he emphasized.
With confirmations from both Metuh and Omokri, it’s now evident that the path that led to Showunmi’s role in Atiku’s campaign was well documented and far from controversial.
