MICHAEL CARRICK MAN UTD FUTURE: EDDIE HOWE AND JULIAN NAGELSMANN EXPECTED FRONTRUNNERS IF HEAD COACH DEPARTS
Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann are reportedly the leading candidates to replace Michael Carrick if Manchester United decide to change their head coach.
According to Sky Sports, United were considering alternatives before Sunday’s 3–0 home defeat to Bournemouth, which extended their winless run to eight matches.
Both Howe and Nagelsmann are available, meaning United would not need to pay another club compensation to appoint either manager.
Howe, who left Newcastle in July to take a break, is reportedly willing to discuss the role should it become vacant. His Premier League experience could appeal to United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox.
Nagelsmann also has a connection within United’s leadership, having worked with recruitment chief Christopher Vivell at RB Leipzig.
Unai Emery and Antonio Conte have also been considered, although neither is currently regarded as a frontrunner. Emery is understood to remain committed to Aston Villa.
Carrick has accepted responsibility for United’s results and says he is continuing his work as normal.
The report concerns possible replacements; United have not announced Carrick’s departure or appointed a successor.
