MILITARY BRUTALITY? NIGERIAN AIR FORCE PERSONNEL ATTACK IKEJA ELECTRIC WORKERS OVER POWER DISCONNECTION
Chaos erupted in Lagos as Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel stormed the Ikeja Electric (IKEDC) office in Oshodi, assaulting staff over a power disconnection. A viral video captures the shocking moment when IKEDC employees were forced to kneel under the scorching sun, reportedly punished by the soldiers for cutting off electricity to the Sam Ethan Air Force Base.
According to reports, the military base had been owing Ikeja Electric millions in unpaid electricity bills. To resolve the issue, an agreement was reached for the base to pay **₦60 million monthly**, but payments reportedly stopped. After two weeks of disconnection, the Air Force claimed the power outage was compromising their security, leading to the brutal retaliation.
Eyewitnesses say the soldiers stormed the Oshodi office early in the morning, physically assaulting workers, confiscating phones, and subjecting them to dehumanizing punishment. This incident follows a similar attack on Ikeja Electric’s headquarters in Ikeja the previous day. At least **10 employees were severely injured and hospitalized** due to the assault.
Public reactions are sharply divided. Some Nigerians express outrage, calling it a gross abuse of military power and a descent into lawlessness. Others argue that Ikeja Electric is merely getting a taste of its own medicine, citing years of estimated billing, poor service, and indiscriminate disconnections.
As tensions rise, many are questioning why the military chose violence instead of a legal resolution. Ikeja Electric has yet to issue an official statement, while the Nigerian Air Force remains silent on the controversy.
