Northeast Military Commander Reassures Troops, Says Welfare Is Top Priority

In a strong show of leadership and support, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), Major General AB Abubakar, has reiterated that the welfare of Nigerian soldiers remains a top priority for the Military High Command.

During an operational assessment tour across various bases in Yobe State — including Sector 2 Damaturu, 233 Battalion, 159 Battalion Geidam, and Forward Operating Bases in Babbangida, Kanama, Bukharti, and Kukurta — Major General Abubakar directly engaged with the troops, checking on their living conditions, feeding, and general well-being.

In a statement released by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, the commander emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline, staying alert, and continuing offensive operations to root out terrorists and bring lasting peace to the Northeast region.

He also delivered a message from the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen OO Oluyede, assuring the soldiers that acts of outstanding bravery and performance in the line of duty would not go unnoticed — recognition and rewards await those who go above and beyond.

Furthermore, the commander reminded the troops to comply with the Armed Forces’ social media policy and use proper channels when communicating concerns to higher authorities.

The visit also included the commissioning of key infrastructure projects such as the Sector 2 Main Repair Group Vehicle Bay, inspections of the Army Logistics Base 3, Level II Field Hospital in Damaturu, and assessments of deployed troops and combat support facilities.

A major highlight was the decoration of Inspector MD Yusuf, who was promoted to Assistant Superintendent II of Police — a symbolic reminder of the value placed on dedication and service. The visit ended with briefings, souvenir exchanges, and group photos, reflecting camaraderie and unity within the force.

Major General Abubakar was accompanied by senior military leaders, including Brigadier General Beyedi Martins, commandant of the Nigerian Army Special Forces School, and other key officers from the Theatre Command.

The visit underscores the military’s ongoing efforts to boost morale and ensure that those on the frontline are fully supported — not just in words, but in meaningful actions.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
