MILITARY DISCOVERS BOKO HARAM’S HIDEOUT SUPPLY NETWORK IN BORNO
Nigerian troops operating under Operation Hadin Kai have uncovered an underground Boko Haram logistics base in Borno State, containing fuel, medical supplies, and other essential equipment.
The discovery followed intelligence-led operations targeting terrorist hideouts in the Timbuktu Triangle, covering Chilaria, Garin Faruk, and Abirma communities on Sunday, January 18, 2026.
Lt. Col. Uba Sani, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, confirmed the development in a statement on Monday. He explained that the mission was part of Operation Desert Sanity, which successfully dismantled several Boko Haram and ISWAP camps.
“Troops of the Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation Hadin Kai, have achieved further operational successes in Operation Desert Sanity, destroying multiple terrorist camps, recovering weapons and equipment, and repelling coordinated insurgent attacks in the Timbuktu Triangle,” the statement read.
The operation involved carefully planned attacks on known terrorist enclaves, with support from the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, which provided real-time surveillance and intelligence. According to Sani, this air-ground coordination enabled precise tracking of terrorist movements, prevented reinforcements, and enhanced ground operations.
During the mission, troops recovered an array of items, including communication gadgets, ammunition, military equipment, and Boko Haram/ISWAP flags. Specific recoveries included:
Baofeng radios and mobile phones
Five AK-47 magazines
Several rounds of 7.62 × 39mm special ammunition and 7.62mm NATO belted ammunition
Links of 12.7 × 108 mm ammunition
Diesel-powered grinding machines
Large quantities of medical supplies
Bags of grains
A pick-up truck
Underground logistics storage and petroleum products
Sani noted that these seizures significantly disrupted the terrorists’ operational capabilities and supply movements.
He also revealed that troops faced armed drone attacks during the operation. “Despite this, the troops maintained momentum, repelled the assaults, and forced the terrorists to withdraw, reaffirming dominance in the area,” he said.
The Media Information Officer emphasized that troop morale remains high, while the general security situation in the region is calm but unpredictable. He assured that the military leadership remains committed to eliminating terrorists, protecting civilians, and restoring peace in the North-East.
