The Federal Government has inaugurated principal officers for newly established federal tertiary institutions as part of its efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s higher education system.

The ceremony, held in Abuja, was led by the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, who also installed the new leadership of the National Commission for Colleges of Education. The development was confirmed in a statement released by the Federal Ministry of Education on March 12, 2026.

Minister Alausa stated that the appointments cover key leadership positions at the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe, and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic, Abuja. He noted that the move is part of ongoing initiatives to expand opportunities in tertiary education and enhance teacher training across the country.

He further emphasized that the newly established institutions are expected to drive research and innovation in areas critical to national development. Priority fields identified include food security, climate change, renewable energy, and technological advancement.

In addition, Alausa urged the leadership of the National Commission for Colleges of Education to strengthen oversight of colleges of education and maintain high academic standards within the teacher training system.

The Federal Ministry of Education highlighted that these appointments form part of broader efforts to reinforce institutional leadership, improve governance structures, and enhance the overall competitiveness of Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
