MISSED PENALTY SPARKS ADEBAYOR’S CRITICISM OF AROKODARE’S CONFIDENCE
Former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor has raised concerns over the confidence level of Tolu Arokodare following the forward’s missed penalty in Wolverhampton Wanderers’s 1–0 Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Speaking during an analysis segment on Premier League Productions, Adebayor criticised Arokodare’s composure after the Nigerian forward squandered a first-half opportunity to level the score. His effort, aimed low to the right, was comfortably saved by Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
Adebayor suggested the striker appeared unsure in a decisive moment, stressing that such situations demand clarity and confidence. According to him, when a striker breaks past a defender, the defender either commits a foul or allows the attacker to finish the move — a hesitation, he implied, reflects a lack of self-belief.
He added that a penalty in a high-stakes Premier League match requires conviction, arguing that Arokodare’s timid execution highlighted his current struggles in front of goal.
