MISSING NYSC LAWYER FOUND IN ABUJA AS POLICE LAUNCH FRESH INVESTIGATION
Relief has spread across Abuja after the Federal Capital Territory Police Command confirmed that Linda Ameh, the young lawyer and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member earlier declared missing, has been found alive.
The 25-year-old, whose disappearance sparked fear and concern across social media and among residents of the capital city, reportedly appeared at the Maitama Police Station after she was located by authorities.
In a statement released on Sunday, the FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, disclosed that Ameh is currently assisting investigators with crucial information connected to the incident.
“Ms. Linda Ameh, the legal practitioner previously reported missing on the 6th of May 2026, has now been located. She is assisting the Police with valuable information to aid the ongoing investigation,” the statement read.
Police authorities, however, did not confirm whether any ransom was paid for her release despite earlier reports claiming suspected abductors demanded ₦20 million.
Ameh was reported missing on Tuesday, May 6, after she failed to return home from work. Reports indicated that she completed her duties at Blades and Butchers Ltd in Maitama around 5:40 p.m. before heading towards the Life Camp area of Abuja.
Shortly after, her phone lines reportedly became unreachable, triggering panic among family members and friends who made repeated but unsuccessful attempts to contact her.
The situation later escalated after messages allegedly sent by suspected kidnappers surfaced, demanding millions of naira for her release.
The incident generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over rising insecurity and the growing cases of disappearances within the Federal Capital Territory.
Police say investigations are still ongoing as security operatives intensify efforts to identify and arrest those behind the alleged abduction.
The command also assured residents that every available resource is being deployed to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the case.
Before the incident, Ameh was said to be close to completing her mandatory NYSC programme and Community Development Service (CDS), making the news of her disappearance even more emotional for colleagues and loved ones.
While her safe return has brought relief, the case has once again reignited conversations around public safety, insecurity, and the urgent need for stronger protection for young Nigerians living and working in major cities.
