Telecommunications operator Mobily and network technology firm Ericsson have marked 20 years of partnership in delivering connectivity services during the annual Hajj pilgrimage, unveiling new AI-powered 5G enhancements to support millions of pilgrims.

Both companies said the upgraded network infrastructure is designed to improve coverage, speed, and reliability across key pilgrimage sites in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The new expansion integrates artificial intelligence to optimise network performance in real time, helping manage the massive surge in mobile traffic during Hajj operations.

According to officials, the enhanced system will also support emergency communication services, crowd management coordination, and digital services used by pilgrims throughout the holy sites.

Industry stakeholders say the partnership has played a major role in ensuring stable connectivity during one of the world’s largest annual gatherings, where network demand spikes significantly within a short period.

Ericsson noted that the AI-driven upgrade reflects the growing importance of intelligent networks capable of adapting dynamically to high-density environments.

Mobily added that the continued collaboration demonstrates its commitment to providing seamless digital experiences for pilgrims while supporting Saudi Arabia’s broader digital transformation goals.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
