Two years after the tragic death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, commonly known as Mohbad, calls for justice have resurfaced. A civic group, Lagosians For Truth and Justice, has strongly criticized the police for allegedly mishandling the investigation.

In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by its coordinator, Rotimi Da Silva, the group expressed deep dissatisfaction with what it described as a failed and inconsistent probe that has eroded public trust in the system. The group noted that the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death remain unclear, and that the police have not done enough to answer the lingering questions.

Lagosians For Truth and Justice alleged that key individuals who were with Mohbad in his final 24 hours, including his partner, were never arrested or interrogated as suspects. Instead, they claim the police relied solely on unverified accounts rather than conducting an independent and thorough investigation.

Concerns were also raised about the role of the Lagos State Government, particularly regarding a controversial toxicology test. The group pointed out that the government had previously stated that Mohbad’s samples were sent to NMS Pennsylvania. However, that facility later denied ever receiving any samples bearing the late singer’s name.

Additionally, the group referenced significant discrepancies brought to light during the coroner’s inquest, which they believe were ignored or inadequately addressed. One such discrepancy arose from testimony by Aduragbemi Aloba, who stated under oath that anyone claiming to have seen Mohbad alive after 12 noon on the day he died should come forward, suggesting he may have passed away earlier than widely believed.

With numerous unanswered questions and ongoing inconsistencies surrounding the case, Lagosians For Truth and Justice is demanding a fresh, independent, and transparent investigation to uncover the true cause of Mohbad’s death and restore public confidence.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
