MOROCCO CROWNED AFCON 2025 CHAMPIONS AS CAF STRIPS SENEGAL
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially declared Morocco as the winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following a ruling by its Appeal Board.
The decision came after CAF determined that Senegal forfeited the final match by walking off the pitch during play. As a result, Morocco has been awarded a 3–0 victory.
The ruling upholds Morocco’s appeal in the aftermath of the controversial events that unfolded during the match.
Senegal’s players had briefly left the field in protest after a disputed late penalty was awarded to Morocco during regulation time. Although the team later returned to the pitch and went on to win the match 1–0, CAF ruled that the initial walk-off constituted a breach of competition regulations.
According to CAF, the action violated Article 84, which addresses refusal to play or abandoning the field. Under AFCON rules, any team that refuses to continue a match or leaves the pitch without authorization is subject to forfeiture and possible elimination.
