MOTORIST STABS LASTMA OFFICER DURING ENFORCEMENT IN LAGOS
A motorist has been arrested after allegedly stabbing a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officer during a routine traffic enforcement operation in the state.
The incident occurred when the officer attempted to impound the vehicle for traffic violations, leading to a confrontation that escalated into violence. The LASTMA official sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
LASTMA officials condemned the attack, describing it as an assault on lawful authority. The suspect has been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution. “Such acts of violence against law enforcement officers will not be tolerated,” a LASTMA spokesperson said.
The agency has urged motorists to comply with traffic rules and avoid confrontations with officials. Security agencies have been directed to increase patrols in enforcement zones to prevent similar incidents.
The development has sparked renewed calls for stronger protection for traffic officers and stricter penalties for assaults on public officials.
