MYSTERY SURROUNDS YOUNG MAN’S DEATH IN KWARA POLICE CUSTODY JUST HOURS AFTER FAMILY PAYS HIS DEBT

A family in Kwara State is demanding answers after their son, Olatunji Jimoh, mysteriously died less than 24 hours after being arrested over an alleged ₦200,000 debt. What began as a routine debt recovery took a dark and tragic turn, leaving the family questioning the circumstances surrounding his death in police custody.

According to reports, Olatunji was arrested and detained at a police station in Kwara after being accused of owing Gabriel Sunday, a businessman at Oland Farm, Ota Road. That evening, his distressed mother was informed of his arrest and rushed to the station, where she was told her son wouldn’t be released until the full debt was paid.

Desperate to secure his freedom, his mother and sister scrambled to gather the money, emptying local piggy bank savings and calling on relatives. By nightfall, the required amount had been paid to the police, yet Olatunji was still not released. The officers claimed that Gabriel Sunday was in Ibadan, and until he confirmed the payment, the young man would remain in custody.

At 2 AM, Olatunji’s sister received a disturbing phone call from the station, urging her to come immediately as they "did not understand what was wrong with him." Shocked and confused, she called their mother, who suggested they wait until morning.

By 7 AM, the family arrived at the station but were denied access to Olatunji for an hour. While waiting, they noticed blood stains in the cell where he had been kept the night before. At 8 AM, police officers dropped a devastating bombshell—Olatunji had allegedly committed suicide overnight.

His body, they claimed, had already been transported to the morgue. However, when the family arrived, they were met with a horrifying sight—Olatunji’s chest had been stitched up, and several organs were missing. Autopsy findings and inconsistencies in the police account of events further deepened suspicions.

The family immediately rejected the suicide narrative, raising several key questions:

  • The photo of the alleged suicide provided by the police did not match the actual cell where Olatunji was detained.
  • Why would he take his own life after knowing his debt had been cleared?
  • What really happened between the time the money was paid and the moment he was declared dead?

The case has since sparked outrage, with many calling for the Kwara State Police Command and the Force PRO, @Princemoye1, to break their silence and provide clear answers—not just the usual “investigation is ongoing” response.

As Nigerians demand justice for Olatunji Jimoh, one chilling thought lingers: E FIT BE YOU OOO.
