The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has released the results of the June/July 2025 National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) in-school examinations, with officials reporting a strong improvement in overall performance and a drop in examination malpractice cases.

Announcing the results in Abuja on Thursday, NABTEB Registrar, Dr. Aminu Mohammed, said this year’s outcome showed encouraging progress, especially in Mathematics, where candidates recorded a 94.60% success rate. Out of the 85,805 students who sat for the subject, 81,172 passed while 4,633 failed.

According to Dr. Aminu, a total of 92,875 candidates registered for the exams, which were held nationwide between June 16 and July 17 across 1,892 centres. Of this number, 89,621 were graded — 57,651 (62.07%) males and 35,224 (37.93%) females.

He noted that enrolment into the NBC/NTC examinations grew significantly this year, rising by 37.08% compared to 2024, when 67,751 students sat in 1,708 centres.

Performance in English Language was also strong, with 85,476 candidates graded. Of these, 79,575 (93.10%) passed while 5,901 (6.90%) failed. This shows a slight dip when compared to 2024, when 95.87% passed the subject.

Comparing overall results, Dr. Aminu highlighted that 2025 candidates performed better than those of the previous year. In 2024, about 44,000 candidates (65.34%) scored five credits and above including English and Mathematics, while 62,235 (92.42%) scored five credits and above with or without English and Mathematics. This year’s figures reflect noticeable improvement, especially in Mathematics.

On malpractice, the Registrar disclosed that 435 candidates were involved in 516 reported cases — a decrease from previous years.

Dr. Aminu stressed that Nigeria must continue to prioritise technical education and skills acquisition to reduce unemployment and prepare young people for the future.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
