NAE TO DEEPEN ENGAGEMENT WITH GOVERNMENT ON POLICY AND DEVELOPMENT

The Nigerian Academy of Engineering (NAE) has pledged to strengthen collaboration with the Federal Government to provide expert advice on critical national issues, including infrastructure development, technological innovation, and sustainable economic growth.

At its recent annual general meeting in Abuja, NAE President, Professor Peter Onwualu, emphasised the academy’s readiness to partner more closely with policymakers to bridge the gap between research, innovation, and practical implementation. “Engineering solutions are central to solving Nigeria’s developmental challenges,” he said.

The academy plans to intensify engagement through technical committees, policy briefs, and advisory services on priority sectors such as energy, transportation, agriculture, and digital economy. It will also focus on youth mentorship and capacity building for the next generation of engineers.

Government officials welcomed the commitment, noting that expert input from the academy would enhance evidence-based policymaking. The partnership is expected to yield actionable recommendations for addressing infrastructure deficits and promoting industrialisation.

The move aligns with broader efforts to harness local expertise for national development and reduce dependence on foreign consultants in key engineering projects.
