The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intercepted a massive consignment of fake malaria drugs valued at over N1.2 billion during a raid in Ilasa-Oshodi, Lagos State.

According to the agency, 277 cartons of counterfeit Malamal Forte tablets were discovered in a warehouse. The drugs had been illegally imported from Shanxi Tianyuan Pharmaceuticals Group in China and cleverly concealed in cartons labelled as Diclofenac Potassium 50mg.

To further disguise their content, the importers reportedly declared the container as spare parts, in an attempt to evade detection.

NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, condemned the criminal activity, stressing that the agency—backed by the Presidency and Federal Ministry of Health—remains fully committed to protecting Nigerians from counterfeit and substandard medicines.

“This seizure is part of our ongoing nationwide operations to safeguard public health and ensure only safe, quality medicines reach the market,” she stated.

The raid highlights the serious health risks posed by fake drugs and the relentless efforts of NAFDAC to clamp down on unscrupulous importers who put lives at risk for profit.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
