The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has reacted to a viral video showing a woman begging on the streets with her children, despite reportedly receiving ₦550,000 to start a business.

In the video, a man confronted the woman, reminding her that he had raised the money for her on the agreement that she would set up a shop and stop begging. To his shock, he found her back on the streets with her kids.

During the heated exchange, the woman claimed that her husband ran away with the money on the very same day she received it. But the man was not convinced, insisting she never mentioned having a husband when he helped her. He accused her of “cooking up” the story and making her children suffer, while also tarnishing his own reputation since he had to seek donations from others to support her.

The video sparked outrage online, with many questioning why the woman would still resort to begging after such significant assistance.

Responding to the situation, NAPTIP wrote on X (formerly Twitter):

“Abeg even if na to add location once once, e go help us to dey locate these cases. Those kids need to be rescued ASAP.”

The agency’s response suggests that immediate steps will be taken to ensure the safety and welfare of the children involved.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
