NAPTIP PLACES NIGERIAN SINGER SPEED DARLINGTON ON WATCHLIST
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has placed controversial Nigerian rapper Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, on a watchlist after he failed to honour an invitation to the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
The update was disclosed by Ijeoma Mary Amugo, NAPTIP’s Director of Legal and Prosecution, during a press briefing in Abuja on Sunday, November 24, 2025, according to Leadership.
NAPTIP had earlier, on June 27, 2025, declared the singer wanted over allegations bordering on rₑpe, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking.
The agency’s action followed Speed Darlington’s controversial claim during an Instagram live session that he had been intimate with a 15-year-old girl—an accusation that raises concerns of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.
In response, the rapper filed a lawsuit against NAPTIP, insisting he committed no crime and had been wrongly declared wanted.
Speaking at the briefing, Amugo said Speed Darlington attempted to intimidate the agency by publicly refusing to appear before investigators.
“What he did was to preemptively try to intimidate us by going on social media to say he wouldn’t come and that we were infringing on his human rights,” she said.
She added that investigators made several attempts to physically locate the singer but were unable to track him to any known address.
According to the agency, Speed Darlington is believed to have left Nigeria.
“As I’m speaking to you, the last report we have is that he’s outside the country and we have not heard from him yet. We have placed him on a watchlist. Anytime he enters Nigeria, NAPTIP will continue the investigation from where we stopped,” Amugo stated.
The case remains open as the agency awaits his return to the country.
