NASARAWA CHAIRMAN ALIYU BELLO SUSPENDED, BARRED BY COURT ORDER AMIDST INTERNAL RIFT
The political landscape in Nasarawa State's All Progressives Congress (APC) is currently embroiled in a significant internal crisis, following a court order that has effectively sidelined the embattled state chairman, Aliyu Bello.
A Senior District Court in Lafia has issued a restraining order, preventing Bello from acting as a member or chairman of the party.
This judicial intervention comes hot on the heels of a dramatic development earlier this week. On Tuesday, July 3rd, Ibrahim Illiyasu, the APC Chairman of Gayam Electoral Ward in Lafia, along with 13 other ward officials, announced Bello's suspension from the party. The reason cited for this drastic measure was alleged anti-party activities.
The court's decision, handed down on Thursday by Senior District Judge Abdullahi Lanze of Court 3, was a direct result of a motion filed by Suleiman Turaki, counsel to Illiyasu.
The order is comprehensive: it explicitly restrains Aliyu Bello, as well as anyone acting on his behalf (including agents and supporters), from performing any function or issuing any public statements related to the APC.
This ban will remain in effect until the substantive motion on notice is heard and determined.
This development signals a deepening rift within the Nasarawa APC. The suspension by ward officials and the subsequent court order against the state chairman highlight significant internal power struggles and disagreements.
The coming weeks will undoubtedly be crucial for the party in Nasarawa State as it navigates this challenging period, awaiting further legal proceedings to resolve the leadership dispute.
