NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL: OBASANJO, SHETTIMA, ADELEKE AND ABIODUN LINK UP IN OGUN STATE
Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, pulsed with energy over the week as the 22nd National Sports Festival opened in grand style at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, after several months of delay.
The opening ceremony of the much-anticipated festival, tagged the ‘Gateway Games 2024’, was turned into a celebration of Nigerian talent, tradition, fashion and unity.
One of the highlights of the festival was the entrance of the afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, known as Davido. The stadium erupted the moment he sprinted into the arena.
The soulful performance from songstress, Asa, who delivered a rendition of the National Anthem and the Ogun State Anthem, added an emotional and dignified touch to the event.
Representing President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, donned the signature attire and declared the festival open.
Governor Dapo Abiodun was the gracious host as he welcomed participants from all over Nigeria.
Other notable personalities in attendance include Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State who brought his trademark charisma and cultural flair, Senator Gbenga Daniel, and Nike Davies-Okundaye, founder of the Nike Art Gallery.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who received thunderous applause as he entered the stadium, also appeared in his customised regalia.
