NAVAL CHIEF COMMENDS OTTI FOR INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT
The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has commended Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, for supporting improvements at the Nigerian Navy College of Accounts and Finance in Owerrinta.
Abbas gave the commendation on Monday during the commissioning of upgraded internal roads, a resurfaced parade ground, a reconstructed swimming pool and 10 one-bedroom transit accommodation units for junior officers.
Represented by Rear Admiral Ebiobowei Zipele, the Flag Officer Commanding, Naval Training Command, Abbas said cooperation between the state government and the Navy was important for effective training, personnel welfare and operational efficiency.
He also praised security agencies for working together to maintain peace in Abia.
Speaking on the proposed Azumini Seaport, Abbas said the project could attract investment, boost trade and create jobs. He stressed that adequate security would be needed to protect the port and its supporting infrastructure.
However, he explained that establishing a naval base in the area would require careful assessment of operational needs, logistics and funding.
The naval chief urged the college to maintain the new facilities and reminded personnel to manage public resources with discipline, accountability and integrity.
While commissioning the projects, Otti thanked the Navy for its contributions to education, healthcare and community development in the state.
He expressed hope that the service would expand its educational activities to include secondary schools and vocational institutions.
Otti said investment in education and practical skills could improve young people’s prospects and reduce their vulnerability to crime.
He also praised the college’s medical outreach to surrounding communities and its collaboration with the Abia State Leadership Academy during the 2026 Leadership Training Boot Camp.
