The Nigeria Democratic Congress will unveil its National Campaign Council and present its financial statement at a leadership meeting in Abuja on Monday, October 26.

The party’s third National Executive Committee meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. at JD Event Centre in Maitama.

In a statement, National Publicity Secretary Osa Director said the National Treasurer would present the party’s statement of account as part of its commitment to transparency and accountability.

The NDC also challenged other political parties, particularly the ruling All Progressives Congress, to make their finances public.

The planned disclosure comes amid speculation about the party’s income from nomination forms.

Addressing the issue, the NDC claimed that about 80 per cent of its candidates could not afford expression-of-interest forms because of economic hardship.

It said those candidates received the forms free of charge, limiting the revenue the party could have generated.

The party blamed the situation on the APC administration’s economic policies. That assessment represents the NDC’s position.

Alongside the financial presentation, the unveiling of the campaign council will set out the team responsible for coordinating the party’s national election campaign.

The statement did not name the proposed council members or disclose the financial figures ahead of Monday’s meeting.
