NDDC MD BRIEFS TINUBU ON LEGACY PROJECTS READY FOR UNVEILING
The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, says he has briefed President Bola Tinubu on progress made in completing major legacy projects across the Niger Delta region.
Ogbuku disclosed this after a meeting with the President at the State House in Abuja.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the NDDC Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, the commission reaffirmed its commitment to translating the Renewed Hope Agenda into visible development outcomes.
The NDDC boss credited the progress recorded by the agency to support from the Presidency.
“President Tinubu has charged us to complete all legacy projects for the benefit of the people of the Niger Delta region,” he said.
Ogbuku noted that the meeting allowed him to update the President on the commission’s achievements and strategic interventions across the region.
He said some completed projects include the 650-bed hostel complex at Niger Delta University in Amassoma, Bayelsa State, and an electrification project in Oron, Akwa Ibom State.
The NDDC chief said he also invited President Tinubu to commission the completed projects as proof of the Federal Government’s commitment to sustainable development in the Niger Delta.
Speaking on the hostel project, Ogbuku said it would help solve long-standing accommodation challenges facing students of the university.
“The new hostel will not only provide comfort and security but will also reduce stress, enhance concentration, and boost academic productivity among students who will now reside within the university premises,” he stated.
He further revealed that several major projects are nearing completion and would soon be ready for inauguration.
These include the Kaa–Ataba Road and Bridge in Rivers State, the Niger Delta Regional Specialist Hospital in Rivers State, and road projects in Ikot Ekpene.
Ogbuku also briefed the President on the ongoing 70.75-kilometre Omadino-Okerenkoko-Escravos Road and bridges project in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, being executed in partnership with the Delta State Government and Chevron Nigeria Limited.
The NDDC was established in 2000 during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to accelerate development in the oil-producing Niger Delta region.
The commission covers nine states: Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Abia, and Ondo.
