The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested five suspects and intercepted two trucks carrying cannabis valued at N724.5 million in Edo State.

The Edo State Commander of the agency, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this during a press briefing in Benin on Monday.

He said operatives intercepted 483 bags of skunk cannabis, weighing 7,245 kilograms, hidden inside two articulated trucks used for transporting alcoholic beverages.

According to him, the drugs were concealed in trucks with registration numbers OYO LUY 172 XC and OYO LUY 281 XC, which were intercepted while en route to Abuja.

The suspects arrested in connection with the shipment include Ibrahim Abu, Abu Abdullazeez, Jibril Jaminu, Andrew Moses, and Ganiyu Abu, all reportedly from Etsako East and Etsako West LGAs of Edo State.

Ofoyeju described the seizure as a major operational success, noting that it is the first time the command has intercepted two drug-laden trucks at once, disrupting a major inter-state trafficking network.

He added that the consignment originated from Sabongida-Ora in Owan West LGA and was headed for the Federal Capital Territory before interception.

The commander assured that investigations are ongoing to uncover all those involved in the trafficking network, while reaffirming NDLEA’s zero-tolerance stance on drug crimes under its leadership.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
